PROGESTERONE CONTRACEPTION
PROGESTERONE PILL
Progestogen-only pills contain only a synthetic progesterone and do not contain estrogen. The pill is taken daily. With typical use, the estimated risk of pregnancy is about 13% per-year.
PROGESTERONE INJECTION
The progesterone injection contains a synthetic progesterone which is slowly released over a period of several months. The injection is given every 12 weeks. With typical use, the estimated risk of pregnancy is about 0.3% per-year.
PROGESTERONE IMPLANT
The progesterone implant is a small flexible tube measuring about 40mm in length which is inserted under the skin (typically in the upper arm) by a provider and releases progesterone slowly. The implant is effective for 3 years. With typical use, the estimated risk of pregnancy is about 0.3% per-year.
